What can i say....half a meter and 10 liters to big, that's what i have to say. I sailed Coronation last year and had the best time ever, not saying today was bad...but what they say about there is never too much wind, just the wrong gear is so right. When i decided to return to WA this year i was determined to have the right kit, I invested in a 95lt Fanatic freewave board and have every Pryde Alpha from 4.7 up, With my other 2 boards a 120lt JP x-cite ride and 113lt Fanatic freewave i thought i'd have all my bases covered. How wrong was i, so overpowered and on the edge of being out of control....But i persisted, i put 2cm more on my extension and down hauled the shit out of that 4.7 and made it as loose and flat as i could. It was not a pleasure to sail but it worked....Just that is.
I'm getting more comfortable with landing jumps now and I'm actually looking to hit the waves at speed, I gybed onto a wave for the first time today and it was so sweet...until my harness line caught my harness hook as i flipped the sail which resulted in me eating shit yet again, but i still smiled inside...It was so close.
The locals put on quite a show and as you can see from the pics a good show it was, hope you enjoy...I'll try and get some video up soon.
